May 11, 2023 (Newfoundland and Labrador) – The Coordinated Accessible National (CAN) Health Network is pleased to announce its partnership with Luxsonic Technologies Inc. (Luxsonic), a Canadian technology company that is increasing access to health care with virtual reality solutions for radiology, medical education and clinical training.

Health care organizations across Canada are facing major capacity and resourcing challenges, limiting access to care and services for patients. These challenges are especially prevalent in radiology. According to the Canadian Association of Radiologists, prior to the pandemic, Canadians were waiting an average of 50 to 82 days for CT scans and up to 89 days for MRI imaging – 20 to 52 days longer than the recommended 30-day wait time. Since the pandemic, this has only gotten worse.

To help address these challenges and transform the quality and timeliness of care, Luxsonic developed SieVRt, a collaborative, portable, virtual reality workflow platform for remote radiology. With SieVRt, students, residents and physicians can access a full-featured reading room environment anywhere they go, for a fraction of the normal cost.

“The demand for radiology services has outgrown the supply of radiologists,” says Dr. Mike Wesolowski, Founder and CEO, Luxsonic. “One way to solve this problem is to create better, more efficient and accessible tools for radiologists to do their work. That’s exactly what we’ve done with SieVRt.”

Through this new partnership with CAN Health, Luxsonic will have the opportunity to work directly with some of Canada’s leading health care organizations, and increase the potential to scale its solution across the Network and beyond.

“CAN Health is excited to introduce Luxsonic’s innovative solutions to the Network,” says Dr. Dante Morra, Chair, CAN Health Network. “It’s fantastic to see a Canadian company with the potential to help solve some of the health care system’s biggest challenges.”
